Destroyed beauty and philosophical blows.
In the duo exhibition “I WAS WINNING ’TIL I WASN’T,” Diane Océane Haefner
and Julius Bobke present works that happily explode the expectations of
porcelain sculptures and classical painting within just a few seconds.
Diane Océane Haefner’s porcelain sculptures evoke direct and indirect
associations with the physical. Are they indistinct body parts – from people,
animals or even aliens? Teeth, brains, plants, patterns and set pieces of objects
twist and merge into one another. Orchids, genitals, fruits, pearl necklaces,
indecipherable textures meet in pastel-colored porcelain bodies: shiny and
absurd, as repulsive as they are beautiful.
Julius Bobke’s artistic practice interweaves and expands classical painting with
digital processes. The taking up and further thinking of art historical references is
combined with a strong reference to materials and craftsmanship. Image
elements and motifs are removed from their original context and transferred to
new, contemporary themes. Plasticine plays a central role as a material and
design tool.
